Challenge and Opportunity

September 2, 2021

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one most adaptable to change.”

Charles Darwin

In a rapidly changing world, BSW is taking active responsibility for its impact on climate change. Aligned with BSW Wealth Partners’ B Corp certification and longstanding commitment to act responsibly and minimize the impact of our activities on the environment, we have achieved 100% carbon neutrality.[1] While we are proud to be carbon neutral, we know carbon neutrality doesn’t achieve any sort of systemic change.  We know more needs to be done and BSW is up to the challenge.

Becoming Carbon Neutral

BSW is funding verified emissions reduction projects through Native, A Public Benefit Corporation. BSW is currently financing the Medford Spring Grassland Conservation project. Our funds are helping the Southern Plains Land Trust to acquire and conserve 6,900 acres of grassland in southeastern Colorado. Any CO2 released into the atmosphere from BSW’s activities will be balanced by an equivalent amount being removed.

Climate and the Economy

We can’t do it alone. Climate change, and our fight against it, is transforming almost every sector of the economy as the demand for companies to cut emissions and pull carbon dioxide from the air increase. We believe it’s time for organizations to start playing a larger role in fighting the world’s most pressing problems. BSW will continue to look for ways to lessen impact on people and the planet because we believe it’s the right thing to do – for our staff, clients, community and humanity.

Commitment to Climate Justice

The term climate justice recognizes that climate change is a human-made crisis that has been primarily wrought by those with economic power, while the effects of climate change seem to have a disproportionately negative impact on the historically marginalized and underserved. Recognizing the intersection of climate and social justice, BSW has the ability to activate investments across all asset classes – stocks, bonds, real estate, private equity – that both avoid funding products and services that perpetuate climate change and inequality and emphasize directing investment capital to the areas that are working to solve these issues.

Profits vs. Priorities

We believe climate change and inequality are symptoms of a flawed economic ideology requiring a shift to a more holistic way of thinking about our next economy. BSW is staying true to our responsibility as a Public Benefit Corporation to stand up for and advance our priorities of building an environmentally considerate business that helps our clients and all stakeholders achieve both financial security and lives of meaning, abundance and fulfillment.

The whole is only as strong as the weakest link.  We’re grateful for your partnership, and we’re so glad you’re on this journey with us.
