There is always a bright side.
Colorado’s tragic fires have yielded spectacular, brilliant sunsets. The biggest and fastest market decline in memory has yielded the sharpest market recovery on record. Social distancing and C19 protocols are refocusing our attention on family, connection, and community.
Whether we think the world is full of good and opportunity, or evil and threats, we’re right.
2020 has turned many things upside down and inside out. Many businesses, people, and communities are struggling. So much so that, while on a walk with a fellow CEO, we discussed our reticence in broadcasting the hard-fought successes and achievements within our respective companies.
Thus far in 2020, BSW has achieved many milestones:
- The Denver Business Journal just named BSW the #1 Best Place To Work for 2020 in its Medium Company category (25-50 employees)
- The Best For Colorado Awards honored BSW with its top prize, the Changemakers Award, as the highest scoring B Corp amongst our Best For Colorado peers
- Once again, the Financial Times named BSW one of the top 300 financial firms in the US
- InvestmentNews ranked BSW #4 in its 2020 ranking of Best Places to Work for Financial Advisers
- And just the other week, BSW closed on its new Boulder headquarters at 2300 Broadway – announcement here
These wins and recognition are great, but as every mountain guide (or CEO) worth their salt knows, high-fives aren’t for the summit. High-fives, back-slaps, and handshakes are for when you’re back in the refuge, sitting down to a plate rösti, beer in hand, with the mountain’s hazards behind you. This is Slater’s Law. For us at BSW, the accolades above are just the halfway point. The time for high-fives and handshakes is when YOU, our clients, have met your financial goals and aspirations – when you’ve crossed your proverbial finish line and we’ve achieved our mandate to Make Life Better.
So if you need some pick-me-up in these strange days, Lori McKenna lays down simple wisdom that’s struck a personal chord for me of late – and I hope with you, too.
Hold the door, say “please”, say “thank you”
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb
But always stay humble and kind
When those dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride
But always stay humble and kind
Stay safe, be well, enjoy Labor Day and the waning days of summer.
