Time to Reflect

November 26, 2019

As Thanksgiving approaches and we get closer to the end of the year, it’s a potent time to reflect on what has transpired over the past year and what we want to consider looking forward. Personally, I tend to focus on the most important things in my life and positive change I want to see within myself – which requires an honest, deep self-reflection.  What I’ve learned over the years is that I tend to serve the people in my life better when I make time to go through this process.

“As I have said, the first thing is to be honest with yourself. You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself… Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, but humility.” -Nelson Mandela

If you’ve been following BSW’s blog posts over time, you’ll know that we choose a value of the month to focus on as a firm, and share stories of where we experience these values daily.  This month’s BSW value is Humility. Humility encompasses authenticity, vulnerability, compassion, selflessness, and a spirit of gratitude.  When I reflect on these attributes, they are by far the most attractive and powerful traits I see in the people I admire most in life.

Looking back on this past year and thinking about what means the most to me and the work we do at BSW, I find myself thinking about people – not portfolios – but people.  Our staff, our clients, and the professionals we serve are by far the richest part of coming to work each day.

As we move into this season, I’d like to encourage all of us to lean into this process of better understanding ourselves, in an effort to “Make Life Better” for the people surrounding us.

With a deep spirit of gratitude, I want to say thank you to our clients, staff, and professional network.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!
